i've seen this road for years, but never checked it out for some reason.
its an abandoned paved road, so it's half full of potholes and some interesting obstacles, like the foot-and-a-half-deep washout shown below.
The road was cool at about 35-40 mph, perfect for a GS. you had to be careful, though... the flickering light and shadows could hide some nice little surprises.

I'm in the process of re-doing my garage... hopefully replacing the organized clutter with a more organized, clutter-less look, fresh paint and a sealed floor by the time all is said and done.

However, I had a bit of a quandary when it came to figuring out how to store my riding gear without spending a small fortune on steel garage storage units vs. just a few bucks on wood composite units.

While doing a search for a metal wardrobe on the Atlanta Craigslist I stumbled across what has turned out to be a really neat solution: used office storage towers.

You can find some additional info on my garage project and the storage units at my blog if you're so inclined.

I believe they still have a good selection of these left on hand. Here's a link to the Craigslist ad: http://atlanta.craigslist.org/nat/fud/1868625915.html

Mike B. from Woodstock, GA is the guy on the other end of the phone or Emails. Great guy.

Some time around 5:30 this morning a security tape recorded a vechicle backing up to our club trailer and leaving with it. The contents of the trailer are worth as much or more than the trailer. When I was notified I got the identifying numbers from Jan and reported it to the Union County Sheriffs Dept. It is a white Horton Hauler(?) cargo trailer. Tag number TL08543. We don't think we have insurance on the trailer or it's contents. The trailer had a tongue lock on it but that didn't seem to slow the bastard down.
If you have any information to add that would help or corrections to the above please speak up.
Sgt. John Mccoy of the sheriffs' dept. is handling this. The phone number I have for the sheriffs dept. is 706-439-6038. Hopefully there will be a positive update tomorrow.

Kristy please flag this.

Hello,

I ride a 2007 BMW F800ST. Recently my brake light went out and I replaced the bulb. The new bulb works, but seems to get loose enough from time to time to break the circuit and the brake light no longer works.

So I have purchased new LED taillight assembly.

Using the service manual CD for my bike, I disassembled most of the tail portion of the bike to take off and replace the entire taillight assembly and replace it with the new one, which looks like a perfect match. But the very last part of that dis-assembly got a bit more complicated than I was comfortable doing, so I backed out and re-assembled everything.

I would like to find something that is a bit more comfortable doing this than I am and get a price for what they might charge me do do this job for me.

I also have purchased a set of the LED Hyper-Lites for the bike that I have not installed. I would like to get both jobs done at the same time.

Anyone interested, or anyone have any suggestions on where I could get this done?

Thanks,

Brad

The VP of BMW Motorrad USA is Pieter de Waal. The BMW Owners News magazine published an interview with him in the August issue on page 41.

In years past the person in this position seemed to come from a) 'yes men', b) BMW-only career-men, and some other common factors. Mr. De Waal is an 'outsider' having been recruited into BMW, a newcomer to motorcycling and passionate about performance.

In the 20+ years I've been reading interviews with the newest VP this is the first one I've felt worthy of a double-take.

Don't know how long he'll be in his position (and he probably doesn't either); my guess is we're going to see some interesting and nice changes during his tenure.

If you can get your hands on the August issue of the BMW owners news it's worth reading over the seven pages.

Good reading and riding,

Does anyone wanna ride w/me on Saturday?

I'm open for suggestions - I could do a short out-n-back or an all day - whatever. I was thinking maybe back roads to Mont Eagle or Cheaha or N-GA or an iron butt to Key West or a Varsity Ride (visit all Varsity's in Georgia)?
2004 R1150RT- 2nd owner- 30670 miles. Mobile 1 oil and gear oils. 3000 miles on Michelin Pilot Road II's. Corbin Driver and Pillion seats and OEM seats in the box. Front and rear Corbin backrests. Alaska Leather gel driver sheepshin pad and sheepskin pillion pad. Wired for front and rear Gerbings. Engine cylinder guards. Carbon fiber tank guards. I have all the records and invoices since I have owned it (16 months) and some records including the original invoice from the original owner. Some scratches on the saddlebags from use and leaning against another bike in the trailer and a small crack in a mirror housing from falling in soft grass at a campground. Hard to find.
I have maintained the bike for the last 18,000 miles and I am a 30 year Aircraft and Powerplant mechanic. Recent oil/fluid changes, valve adjustment and throttle body balance.

I am looking to buy a enclosed trailer to store my 1200GS with side bags and a sport bike (Duc 900SS). I am trying to figure out how wide of a trailer I need. A 7' seems like it would be plenty wide, but they are much more expensive than the 6' models. Anyone have some experience they could share? The trailer will probably never be used for towing the bikes. Just as a portable storage shed. So I will be bring them in and out quite often.
Thanks in advance,

My cruise control stopped working. When I first got my '06 R1200RT it was intermittent and I had my dealer check it out. The Garmen hook-up was interferring with it. They checked it and got it to work fine, saying the garmen wiring needed adjusting. Recently, I took off my Garmen and the cruise stopped working. I have the wires still hooked up and wonder if taking it off caused the cruise to stop operating. I haven't taken it to my dealer yet. Thought I would check here first.
